SOFIE METROPOLIS – Volunteer Book Recommendation

0

Each month a Library Shop on Main volunteer selects a book that we have in multiple copies.  These are ex-library books from the Book Club To Go program or Book Discussion Groups held at the branches.  The number of copies available varies. These books, priced at $1, are available for sale in both the Library Shop on Main and the Library Shop Express.

If you enjoy the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich, you’ll love the SOFIE METROPOLIS novels by Tori Carrington.  SOFIE METROPOLIS is the first book in the series.  Sofie, a private investigator at her Uncle Spyro’s detective agency, lives in the very Greek suburb, Astoria.  Her days consist of dodging her mother’s meddling, finding lost pets and taking pictures of cheating spouses.  Until her mundane days take a wild turn when her most recent cheating spouse case turns into attempted murder – her murder!   But no worries, super sexy Australian bounty hunter, Jake Porter, may be just what she needs to help solve the mystery.   Armed with her Nescafe Frappe, her 1965 Mustang convertible – Lucille, and pure guts, Sofiie is determined to get through this one alive.

Joy : a book to share and give during the holidays

0

Joy – $9.99 - Friends of Main Library members save 15%

It’s been said that the days are long but the years are short.  We fill our days with obligations and appointments, and reserve joy for special occasions, holidays, weekends, and stolen moments.

If we want joy to be the story of our years, joy must be the story of our days.

Joy must be a daily choice, a habit, a promise we make to ourselves.  Joy must be the way we travel.

Give yourself and others the gift of joy.

This vibrant gift book is a reminder to share joy, receive joy, and experience joy every day.

Civil War Books – September Special Feature

0

The Friends of Main Library received a generous donation of Civil War related books from the estate of Frank and Marilyn Byrne. Dr. Byrne professed history at Kent State University from 1966 until his retirement in 1995. His special area was Southern U.S. history and the history of the Civil
War.

There are over five hundred books dating back to 1865. Some are of interest mainly to specialists, but many are aimed at a general reader interested in Civil War battles and personalities.

The Library Shop on Main, located on the first floor of Main Library and open every day, is featuring these books during September. Many are priced at $1, most are less than $5.

The Friends thank Dr. Byrne’s family for this gift, especially relevant in this sesquicentennial year remembrance of the War Between the States.
