Civil War Books – September Special Feature
The Friends of Main Library received a generous donation of Civil War related books from the estate of Frank and Marilyn Byrne. Dr. Byrne professed history at Kent State University from 1966 until his retirement in 1995. His special area was Southern U.S. history and the history of the Civil
War.
There are over five hundred books dating back to 1865. Some are of interest mainly to specialists, but many are aimed at a general reader interested in Civil War battles and personalities.
The Library Shop on Main, located on the first floor of Main Library and open every day, is featuring these books during September. Many are priced at $1, most are less than $5.
The Friends thank Dr. Byrne’s family for this gift, especially relevant in this sesquicentennial year remembrance of the War Between the States.
